With its summit (highest point) standing at an incredible 8,849 metres, Everest is the world’s highest mountain above sea level – but did you know that it’s getting even taller? Scientists say the huge landmark, which sits on the border of Nepal and Tibet in the Himalayan mountain range, grows by as much as two millimetres every year. Although this might not seem like a lot, it adds up over time. In a recent study, researchers have suggested that Everest is experiencing a growth spurt. They think this is because of a nearby river, and that the mountain is between 15 and 50 metres taller than it would otherwise be.
