In autumn, ladybirds start preparing to nest for the winter, so they seek out the warmth and safety of people’s homes. You might see them on windows or scuttling around inside. There are 47 species of ladybird in Britain but the most common is the seven-spot ladybird, which is red with black spots. Also common are the red two-spot ladybird and the harlequin. Harlequins are an invasive species (one that has come from other countries and can harm local species and habitats).
