Israel marks 7 October

On 7 October, people across Israel took part in ceremonies to mark a year since Hamas’s attacks, and to think of the 251 people taken hostage on that day. It is thought that 97 of the hostages are still being held by Hamas in Gaza. A ceremony took place at the site of the Nova music festival, one of the places Hamas attacked. In the city of Tel Aviv, people listened as a shofar (a horn used in Jewish ceremonies) was blown. There were also protests. Outside the Israeli prime minister’s house, people gathered to ask the government to do more to get the hostages home safe. They held a minute’s silence to remember those who had died.…
