It is generally believed that the dinosaurs were wiped out by an asteroid (large rock that fell from space) but scientists now have another theory. New research suggests that big volcanic eruptions may have added to the extinction of the dinosaurs. The theory was that a massive asteroid hit Earth, triggering events that led to dinosaurs dying out. It is supported by the existence of the Chicxulub Crater. The huge, bowl-shaped dent in the ground in Mexico was caused by an asteroid smashing into Earth, and scientists discovered that the crater was formed at a similar time to when the dinosaurs died.
