Volunteers help after floods

People in Spain have come together to help those affected by flash floods in parts of the country. A flash flood is caused by sudden heavy rain. What happened? On 28 October, heavy rain began in some areas of eastern and southern Spain, in particular the province (region) of Valencia. There was so much rain that rivers overflowed. The local Valencian government sent out flood warnings to people’s phones but the flooding had already started so it was difficult for some to get to safety. More than 200 people died and others are injured or still missing. The flooding destroyed bridges and buildings and left thousands of people without electricity. Chiva, a town that was hit very hard by the floods, had more rain in eight hours than it had…
