30 November 1991 FIFA’s first Women’s World Cup ends 33 years ago, the US beat Norway 2-1 to become the first FIFA Women’s World Cup champions. This wasn’t the first international tournament in women’s football history (the first one took place in Italy in 1970), but it was the first world cup to be recognised by FIFA, which governs football. Only 12 teams took part in the tournament, but this number has since risen and last year 32 teams participated. The first men’s World Cup happened in 1930.…
