Raising a rare pink pigeon A rare pink pigeon has been hand-reared at a UK zoo for the first time. The conservation success is thanks to keeper Tom Tooley and his colleagues at Paignton Zoo in Devon, England. They came up with a special technique for looking after baby birds, which helps them to eat their food. Pink pigeons are originally from Mauritius, an island country in the Indian Ocean. Tooley has been working with the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation since 2014 to help pink pigeons, which are officially classed as vulnerable to extinction.
