Storm Bert brings snow and rain

Rescue teams and volunteers sprang into action after Storm Bert hit the UK on 23 and 24 November, causing snow, heavy rain and flooding. What happened? The storm brought snow to Scotland and northern England and heavy rain to parts of England and Wales. The Met Office, which provides weather forecasts, said more than 80% of November’s average rain had fallen in less than 48 hours in parts of the UK. Bert also brought strong winds, with speeds of 82 miles per hour at Capel Curig in Wales. Many areas were flooded and major incidents (emergencies that require extra resources) were declared in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, and Northamptonshire, England.
