Protecting the past

A team of experts, called conservators, work at the Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio, which is in a 600-year-old barn in Kent, England. They care for precious objects including furniture, glass, paintings and pottery. The items are stored in a dark room where the air is controlled to prevent moisture damaging them. Visitors can watch items being cleaned or repaired in the studio. In Norfolk, England, the Textile Conservation Studio looks after the National Trust’s valuable textiles (items made from cloth), including fine costumes and tiny things from dolls’ houses.…
