That’s unbelievable!

A beauty contest just for bats On 31 October, a bat called Hoary Potter took the top prize in a beauty competition. The dark-furred hoary bat – named after the famous boy wizard – was praised for his “midnight fur”, “twinkling eyes”, and for embodying (being a good example of) “the magic of the wizarding world”. A white marking on the bat’s forehead was said to look like Harry Potter’s trademark lightning bolt scar. The bat is the third in a row from Oregon, US, to win the competition, which is held to celebrate International Bat Week. Organised by the Bureau of Land Management, the contest raises awareness of how important bats are to the natural world.
