World leaders meet at the G20 summit
On 18 and 19 November, world leaders met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the G20 summit (meeting). The G20, which stands for “Group of 20”, is a meeting of leaders from the world’s richest and most powerful countries to talk about important issues. At the summit, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with China’s president Xi Jinping. This was the first face-to-face meeting between the two countries’ leaders in six years. There has been some tension between the UK and China in recent years but both leaders suggested they would like this to change. Starmer said that a “strong UK-China relationship” would be important for both countries. Another important moment was the launch of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
