Rare dormice in new nests

Hazel dormice have been found in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The species, which has gingery-brown fur and a bushy tail, is rare and can only be found in a few places in the UK. As part of efforts to protect the mammals, volunteers put out a number of nesting boxes. When they checked the boxes later, they found that dormice had made themselves at home in the Nevern valley – about five miles west of Pengelli Forest, where they are already known to live.…
