Georgia vote result sparks protests

After an election on 26 October, Georgia’s ruling party has stayed in power. There have been protests in the capital, Tbilisi. The Georgian Dream party, known as GD, won 54% of votes but some say the boxes where people put their votes were interfered with. The Georgian prime minister and GD leader, Irakli Kobakhidze, insists that the election was fair. However, opposition groups refuse to recognise the result and say GD tampered with the election. Georgia’s International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED) says that voters were intimidated (threatened) before the election and that there was ballot stuffing.
