Are timed tests fair on students?

Some think it’s time to change how students are assessed.

The Government says that primary school children in Year 4 in England must take timed tests for the times tables. Formal testing (setting students tasks to be completed within a certain time) is a traditional way to check how much pupils know and how they are getting on. Some people say these tests are a quick way to see a student’s progress and where they might need extra help. However, some people find timed tests stressful, which could affect their mark.
