Earthshot Prize winners announced

On 6 November, Prince William announced the winners of this year’s Earthshot Prize at a ceremony in Cape Town, South Africa. The prize celebrates people and organisations working on solutions for environmental issues. There are five categories, and each winner is awarded £1 million to help support their project. The award for the Protect and Restore Nature category was given to the Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative. This is a project that was launched in 2005 to protect and restore grasslands in Kazakhstan. Its work has helped to boost the numbers of Saiga antelope from about 40,000 in 2005 to 2.8 million this year. The winner of the Clean Our Air category was the Green Africa Youth Organisation (GAYO).
