Disco lights draw in scallops

Marine scientists from Devon have discovered that scallops like “disco” lights. Researchers found that pots fitted with flashing LED lights attracted these salt-water molluscs, which swim by opening their hinged shells and then snapping them shut. Scallops are usually caught by dragging nets across the seabed, which can damage habitats. Luring them into baskets with lights could turn out to be more efficient – and less harmful to the environment.…
