Covid-19 no longer a health emergency

On 5 May, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the Covid-19 pandemic is no longer a global health emergency. The WHO is a branch of the United Nations (UN), focusing on public health. The UN is a group made up of most of the world’s countries that work together on the challenges that face humanity. In January 2020, the WHO gave Covid-19 its highest level of alert – “a public health emergency of international concern”. Since then, the WHO says that 765 million people have been ill from the disease and nearly seven million have died.
