Brazil In 1960, the president of Brazil, Juscelino Kubitschek, founded a new capital, Brasília. It moved from Rio de Janeiro because Brasília is nearer the middle of the country. The city was designed by some very famous architects and built from scratch on desert-like land. Myanmar The army that controls Myanmar moved the capital from Yangon to Naypyidaw in 2005. The leader at the time, Than Shwe, said the county needed a new capital because of too many people and too much traffic in Yangon. The new capital is famous for its 20-lane motorways. Egypt The Egyptian government is building a new capital city, called the New Administrative Capital, in the desert 30 miles to the east of the current capital, Cairo.
