Six special Coronation roles

King’s Scholars at Westminster school Pupils from Westminster School were the first to formally recognise the King. Together they cried “Vivat Rex!” (Latin for “Long Live the King”). This was the first time that girls were part of the group. Dame Floella Benjamin The former children’s TV presenter carried the King’s sceptre that represents his spiritual role. Benjamin said that her role showed that the King “embraced” diversity. Simon Abney-Hastings The Australian farmer is also the 15th Earl of Loudoun, whose job is to carry the King’s spurs during the ceremony, a custom that dates back 800 years.
