A success story

In 2003, the saiga antelope was a critically endangered species due to the spread of disease and poaching (the illegal hunting or capturing of wild animals). To help bring the species back, officials in Kazakhstan, central Asia, introduced anti-poaching measures and efforts were made to protect their habitats. Last year, their conservation status was officially changed from “critically endangered” to “near threatened”.
