Remixing Romeo and Juliet

Shakespeare’s classic play is brought to the stage with modern music.

In a new version of Romeo and Juliet, the famous play by William Shakespeare is given a fresh twist. Most of the original story is there, but the play also includes rap music created by A Class and That’s A Rap (see panel). There are other changes, too. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is a member of the Montague family and Juliet is from the Capulet family. The Montagues and Capulets are enemies, so although Romeo and Juliet love each other they aren’t allowed to be together. In this version, the families are also rival political parties.
