Blue Ghost reaches the Moon

On 2 March, a spacecraft called Blue Ghost landed on the Moon. This is the second private (not paid for by a government) mission to reach the lunar (Moon’s) surface. Blue Ghost was launched on 15 January by Firefly Aerospace, a company based in the US state of Texas. The spacecraft, which is not carrying humans, travelled more than 2.8 million miles to reach the Moon. It landed in the Mare Crisium (Sea of Crises), a hollow on the lunar surface that is more than 300 miles wide and visible from Earth. To land safely, the spacecraft had to slow its speed from 3,800 miles per hour to just two miles per hour. The aim of the mission is to explore the Mare Crisium.
