On 19 February, a huge ship that has carried US presidents and film stars across the Atlantic began its final voyage before being sunk. The SS United States, which is 302 metres long, will end up off the coast of Florida, US, as the world’s largest artificial (made by humans) coral reef. Artificial reefs offer a place for corals (tiny sea creatures) to attach to and grow. The sunken ship will attract other sea creatures looking for shelter and food, as well as making a good place for people to scuba dive. The ship is being pulled along the coast by tugboats from Philadelphia, a city in the north-east of the country – a journey of more than 2,000 miles.
