Astronauts safely return home

On 18 March, astronauts Suni Williams and Barry “Butch” Wilmore finally arrived back on Earth after spending more than nine months on the International Space Station (ISS). They were originally supposed to be on the ISS for eight days. Why were they in space for so long? Williams and Wilmore, who have both been to space before, were there for much longer than expected because of technical faults on their spacecraft. They blasted off from Earth on 5 June 2024 on Starliner, a spacecraft made by a company called Boeing. This was Starliner’s first crewed (carrying people on board) launch.
