19 March 1932 Sydney Harbour Bridge opens The idea for a bridge across the harbour in the city of Sydney, Australia, was suggested in 1815. It took more than a century to become a reality because it was expensive and the government had to destroy 802 buildings to make space for it. Engineers started building in July 1923. It took nine years to complete one of the longest steel-arch bridges in the world. In 2017, more than 200 trains, 160,000 vehicles and 1,900 bikes used it every day.…
