Doctors strike for better pay
On 13 March, junior doctors in England started a 72-hour strike (refusing to work as a protest). This was the first in a week of strike action across different jobs. Junior doctors are qualified doctors doing training in places such as hospitals. Why are they striking? Junior doctors are asking for a pay rise because in the last 15 years their pay has not gone up at the same rate as the cost of basic items like food and fuel. Other NHS staff have taken care of patients during the strikes. The striking doctors are in the British Medical Association (BMA) trade union, an organisation that represents workers.
