Why can some animals grow back body parts?

Some animals, such as starfish and some worms, can regrow parts of their bodies if they’ve been injured. Many insects and spiders can regrow limbs when they shed their external skeleton, and amphibians with tails can regrow legs, jaws and even eyes. They do this by using special cells that can do the job of any other cell. Doctors are trying to use these cells to treat human illnesses, but we can’t regrow limbs yet.
