This issue we have several stories about ancient Egypt and discovering the buried past. When the team discussed the Roman basilica found in London, we talked about other bits of the ancient past that exist almost unnoticed in our modern world. The Mithraeum (page 14), for example, is built beside the River Walbrook, one of the many rivers that flow under London. I’m fascinated by London’s so-called lost rivers. A few years ago I read about a place where you can still hear the waters of the long-hidden River Fleet – so I decided to go and find it for myself.
