Ancient pharaoh’s tomb discovered

A team of British and Egyptian archaeologists (experts who study ancient objects to help us understand history) have discovered the tomb of the ancient Egyptian pharaoh King Thutmose II. The tomb was found in the Western Valleys near the Egyptian city of Luxor. This is close to the Valley of the Kings, where many ancient Egyptian pharaohs were buried. It is the final undiscovered royal tomb of the 18th dynasty – a rich and powerful period in ancient Egyptian history. King Thutmose II ruled around 3,500 years ago. After he died, his queen, Hatshepsut, became one of Egypt’s greatest pharaohs. To reach the entrance to the burial chamber, the team had to crawl through a narrow, 10-metre long passageway.
