Beano’s 85th anniversary show

On 3 June, Beano magazine marked its 85th anniversary with a special concert, Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed at the Orchestra. The show used a mixture of animation, actors on stage and a live orchestra to tell the story of Beanotown’s loudest rock band, Dennis and the Dinmakers. The live music was played by the BBC Concert Orchestra and musician Colin Currie, who played percussion (instruments that are played by hitting them, such as drums). In true Beano style, Currie’s percussion kit didn’t just have traditional instruments – it was also made up of buckets, dustbin lids and saucepans.
