75 years of the Windrush generation

The arrival of a particular ship in 1948 changed the UK forever.

On 22 June, the UK will mark 75 years since the arrival of HMT Empire Windrush, a ship that brought 800 passengers from the Caribbean to the UK. They were the first of the “Windrush generation” – people who migrated from Caribbean countries to the UK between 1948 and 1971. Migration is when people leave their country to find work, education or to improve their lives somewhere else. The UK Government continued to invite people from the Caribbean to work in Britain until the end of 1972. Who was on the boat?
