At first the connection between this week’s cover story and Empathy Day (which was marked on 12 June) might not be obvious. However, in important meetings like the one between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un, both sides are likely to use empathy as a way of forging a good relationship. Empathy involves understanding how others feel and being able to work out what they want and need. Whether you are a world leader or a school councillor, being able to empathise with other people will help you to make friends and work together successfully. Empathy Day was founded in 2017 by Miranda McKearney.
