US and North Korea hold historic talks

On 11 June, Donald Trump, the US president, met Kim Jong-un, the leader of North Korea. The two men shook hands in Singapore in Southeast Asia, before discussing how North Korea will get rid of its nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are very powerful bombs that can destroy entire cities. How did this meeting happen? Lots of people did not believe this meeting would ever take place because the US and North Korea have been enemies for many years. In the past, Kim Jong-un and Trump have used Twitter to threaten and insult each other, and there were fears that war could break out between the two countries.
