What is press freedom?

“Press freedom” means journalists can report on things without fear of punishment. Human rights organisations say that the US government’s prosecution of Julian Assange has damaged media and press freedom. Press freedom doesn’t mean you can publish anything you like. In the UK, Ofcom issues rules that broadcast outlets (such as TV news programmes) must follow. An organisation called IPSO covers newspapers and magazines. Unlike Ofcom, IPSO is not compulsory, but many publications, including The Week Junior, agrees to follow its rules.…
