Hunting down meteorites

Meteorites from other planets are extremely rare – the vast majority of space rocks found on Earth are actually chunks of much smaller worlds called asteroids, and some have not changed since the birth of the solar system 4.6 billion years ago. Meteorites can reveal important secrets about solar system history but tracking them down can be extremely tricky. Many of the most successful meteoritehunting exhibitions search in places where the space rocks naturally stand out, such as deserts and Antarctic snowscapes.
