Sanjar Qiam loves kites. As a child, he remembers flying them in his home country of Afghanistan. Now, Qiam is launching a kite-flying festival called “Fly with Me”, which will take place in 16 cities around the UK and Europe. The festival will mark the one-year anniversary of Afghanistan’s takeover by the Taliban, a military and political group with extreme views. Qiam wants to draw attention to the Taliban’s treatment of the Afghan people and celebrate the unique role that flying kites has in Afghan culture.
