30 July 1938 The Beano is first published The first issue of The Beano, the world’s longest-running comic, was produced 86 years ago by Scottish publisher DC Thomson. The issue featured Big Eggo the ostrich on its cover. It was a success, selling almost 443,000 copies, and became one of the most successful comics for children. The name was chosen because the word “beano” means a party or celebration. Since its launch, more than 4,200 issues of the comic have been published.…
