King’s Speech opens Parliament

On 17 July, King Charles III delivered the King’s Speech to mark the beginning of a new year in Parliament. This year, it also marked the start of a new Government. What is the King’s Speech? The King’s Speech is part of the State Opening of Parliament. This marks the start of a new session of Parliament. It is held when Parliament meets after a general election, then usually every year afterwards. The speech sets out the Government’s plans for the year. It is written by the Government and the King reads it to members of the House of Commons and House of Lords (the two main parts of Parliament). What was included?
