Two storms cause disruption

On 21 January, Storm Isha brought strong winds and heavy rain to the UK, affecting homes, roads and travel plans. Storm Jocelyn arrived two days later. The storms brought 80-mile-per-hour winds, with some areas experiencing even stronger gusts. During Storm Isha, wind speeds of 107 miles per hour were recorded at the Tay Road Bridge near Dundee, Scotland. The UK’s weather agency, the Met Office, issued flood warnings across the country and some places had between five and 10 centimetres of rain. At the height of Storm Isha, 53,000 homes in Northern Ireland had power cuts. Around 30,000 properties in England, Wales, and Scotland were without power on 22 January, the second day of stormy weather. Fallen trees caused disruptions on roads and railways.
