Around two billion people across the world celebrate the New Year according to the lunar calendar, which is based on the Moon. The date changes every year and this year it falls on 10 February. Each year has the sign of an animal and 2024 is the Year of the Dragon. The dragon is a symbol of power, wealth and wisdom. People born in the year of the dragon are said to be lucky and confident and to have leadership qualities. The “dragon dance” is a New Year tradition to bring good luck and drive away evil spirits.
