Super sewer fully connected

The Thames Tideway Tunnel, or “super sewer”, is now fully connected to London’s sewage network. What is the Thames Tideway Tunnel? It’s a huge tunnel that carries sewage waste away from the River Thames in London. Sewage is waste water that comes from toilets, showers and sinks. The tunnel is 16 miles long and building work started on it in 2016. Why was it needed? Most of London’s sewer network was built Victorian times, during the mid 19th in century. Then, London had a population of around two million people. There are now nearly nine million people living in London, and the sewer network was struggling to cope.
