Go beachcombing

Beachcombing involves searching the seashore for interesting objects, both natural and made by humans. Late winter is a great time to try this fun activity because strong winds and big waves churn up the sea and fling things ashore. After a storm is one of the best times to go beachcombing. You could discover pretty shells, lots of different seaweeds or the remains of sea creatures. Common finds include the leathery egg cases of sharks and rays, known as mermaid’s purses; the chalky ovals of cuttlefish bones; or the remains of sea urchins – round shells called tests, which are covered in raised dots instead of the spines that they shed when they die.
