Lunar New Year celebrations

On 10 February, millions of people celebrated the beginning of the Lunar New Year. This festival is celebrated in many countries in East Asia, including China, and by Asian people living all over the world. The lunar calendar is based on phases of the Moon. Lunar New Year begins with the first new Moon of the calendar, and ends with the full Moon 15 days later. In many cultures, each year is represented by an animal. Last year was the Year of the Rabbit, and this year is the Year of the Dragon. In China, dragons are a symbol of power, strength and good luck.
