Pink fairy armadillo

Scientists have found that pink fairy armadillos have an unusual double skin. They have a pink leathery layer on top of another layer covered in silky white hairs. It’s thought they developed this to adapt to digging through dry sand and soil. • LIFESPAN: Five to 10 years. • HABITAT: Desert and shrubland in central Argentina. • SIZE: Up to 11.5 centimetres long. • DIET: Ants and other insects. • FUN FACT: Pink fairy armadillos are incredibly rare and hard to spot because they live underground.
