2024 Paris Olympic medals unveiled

Athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games will take a piece of the Eiffel Tower home with them if they win a gold, silver or bronze medal. This year’s medals have been designed to represent France. In the centre of each one is a piece of metal from the famous Eiffel Tower that has been shaped into a hexagon. The Olympic organisers say that the hexagon represents “the geometric shape of France”. The pieces of the Eiffel Tower are made of iron and were taken from the tower when repairs were being done. The back of the Olympic medals features an image of the Greek goddess of victory, called Nike. Meanwhile, the back of the Paralympic medals shows a view of the Eiffel Tower from underneath.
