New rules protect children online

Social media companies have been told by Ofcom to make sure children don’t use fake ages to access their platforms. This follows a report by Ofcom, the organisation that oversees the UK’s communication services, including the internet. What did the report say? Ofcom’s Online Nation report, published on 28 November, looks at what people are doing online and their experiences. It found that 22% of eight to 17-year-olds surveyed have said they were 18 or older to use social media. This puts them at risk of seeing harmful content that is only suitable for adults.
