A farmer in Cornwall is working with scientists at the University of Plymouth to test robots, including robotic dogs, on his farm. The robots will measure the health of the soil. Soil is made up of small particles of rock and organic matter (dead plants and animals), along with water and air. For farmers, it’s very important that soil is healthy so it can provide plants with enough nutrients – substances that living things need in order to grow. Unhealthy soil, also called degraded soil, can lead to crops not growing well and farmers losing some of their money.
