Global plastic treaty talks

From 25 November to 2 December, the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) carried out its fifth round of talks for a treaty (agreement) to tackle global plastic pollution. The United Nations (UN) set up the INC in 2022. The UN is an organisation of 193 countries that work together on challenges that face humanity. The treaty was meant to be decided at the meeting but countries could not agree on details – including whether to set targets for reducing plastic production or to focus on dealing with plastic waste.
