Shattering a freezing cold record

Last month, 15 runners travelled to Antarctica to compete in a “first of its kind” ultra-endurance race in -25°C temperatures. Competitors in the Antarctic Ice Ultra race had the option of running distances including 31 miles, 50 miles and 62 miles, or they could work in teams to compete in a 24-hour relay race. Because the temperatures were so extreme, the route was a 2.6-mile loop, with a tent along the way for competitors to go inside if they needed to warm up. They had to wear special clothing to stop them from freezing, and trail-running shoes for extra grip on the snow and ice.
