A smartphone-free childhood

Thousands of parents have signed a pact (agreement) saying they’ll wait to give their children smartphones until at least the end of Year 9 (when pupils are 14). The pact was created by Smartphone Free Childhood, a group set up in February 2024. The group’s website quotes a 2023 study that found links between children’s smartphone use and their mental wellbeing. Smartphone Free Childhood aims to increase awareness of the risks of smartphones and provide parents and schools with the resources to discuss the issue.
